ARD LUTH Elect New President

A cardiologist, Dr Akinkunmi Afolabi, has been elected President of the Association of Resident Doctors of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, (ARD-LUTH), Idi-Araba, Lagos

Expressing his appreciation to members for giving him the mandate, the new ARD president said his administration would ensure the improvement of the welfare of all resident doctors in the tertiary institution.

“We are about 700 doctors here and I plan to having a fitness centre during my tenure, where people can come to relax, interact and that will build the culture of exercise among members of ARD because that’s what we preach but sometimes, the avenues to exercise are not available.”

Dr Afolabi is deputised by a Paediatrician, Dr Ayodele Renner while the Secretary General is Dr Alabi Basit in the Surgery department of the hospital.

Afolabi studied Medicine and Surgery at the University of Ibadan (UI). He did his housemanship at the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta and had his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kaduna where he served at a private healthcare centre. From there, he worked at the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi before moving to LUTH as a resident doctor in 2012.
