Airforce Officer Batters Nurse, Provokes Strike Action

The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, Delta State University Teaching Hospital Oghara Delta have embarked on an indefinite strike over the assault and battery of a nurse (name witheld).

The assault is reported to have taken place on the 5th of January 2016 and was carried out by a Nigerian Airforce Officer named Ovie Doghro.

Reportedly, Ovie Doghro beat up the nurse in the male medical ward where Mr Ovie's Father was admitted to the extent of stripping her naked.

Some nurses who witnessed the attack, reported that his fathers condition was poor and fragile and the patient's relatives had been counselled by the hospital's CMAC to prepare for the inevitable.

On the 5th, after the nurse resumed her shift, she visited the patient and on seeing his condition called for help from other nurses and requested all family members to depart the room including Mr Ovie, who resisted the request but in the end left the room.

Unfortunately the patient passed away despite attempts to resuscitate him. The time of death was called and the family informed.

Mr Ovie was reported to have flown into a rage and attacked the nurse on the spot from behind, punching and tearing up her uniform. Other nurses, some patients and their relatives attempted to stop his attack on her which continued till he was held down by the crowd and the nurse rescued.
