The register which was allegedly issued by MDCN, was said to contain the list of all licensed and registered doctors in Nigeria, and was published by SaharaHealth, the health arm of Sahara reporters in a bid to expose quacks in the medical profession.
Members of the public were urged to visit the Sahara reporters website to check if a doctor is registered and licensed medical professionals were advised to send an email to the website administrator if they couldn't find their names on the list.
However, MDCN has published a public notice on its website on the matter and it clearly states:
The attention of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has been drawn to the publication of a fake Master Register purported to have emanated from the MDCN and attempting to inform the public of the list of licensed and registered doctors in Nigeria.
MDCN wishes to categorically disown such publication and hereby states that:
It has at no time released the Master Register to anyone, group or agency/agencies.
The only authentic Master Register resides with MDCN, as prescribed by law.
MDCN will soon create a link on its webportal that will assist the public determine whether a practitioner is genuine or not. This will consist of the practitioner’s folio number, names, passport photograph and other security variables.
I'm glad MDCN quickly cleared the air on this issue, so please disregard the Sahara reporters list.
