In a bid to further raise awareness on the scourge of breast cancer, the Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria (BRECAN) has staged a walk tagged “Jog for Life” in commemoration of breast cancer awareness month.
The walk which kicked off at the Catholic Church of Divine Mercy, Admiralty Way Lekki and came to an end at Fun Turf, Lekki Phase 1, had the Deputy Chief Whip of Lagos State House of Assembly, Honorable Omotayo Oduntan as the lead jogger.
According to Mrs. Betty Anyanwu Akeredolu, Founder and President of BRECAN, the menace of breast cancer was prevalent in society, and so the need to create awareness on it.
“It is time to make breast cancer a health priority in our society, which is why we are taking to the street of Lekki and Lagos to create awareness on the deadly disease” she said.
In the words of Mr. Yinka Oremosun, one of the co-ordinators of the event, breast cancer is fast becoming a scourge to women. We need to create awareness on it. It is a sad thing that breast cancer is killing women in large numbers with many of our women not aware about this deadly disease, but with a walk like this, so many women will be forced to pay attention to the disease” he said.
