Disturbing Video Of An Officer Assaulting A School Girl in Class

Videos circulating online show a 16 year old female student at Spring Valley High School in South Carolina being pushed to the ground by a school resource officer in a violent confrontation.

In the video, a man in uniform is seen grabbing the student- a black girl, by the arm and the neck before dragging her out of her desk and shoving her to the ground.

Ben Fields, the officer involved has a history of using excessive force and racial profiling. He has been fired for his actions.

From reports, the girl was looking at her cellphone in class and was asked by her teacher and school administrators (also black) to leave but she refused. The administrator then called for the officer who took drastic action.

The incident, filmed by several other students in the class, took place earlier this week.

One classmate described the victim as "shy" and did not know the victim's name. Another classmate, Niya Kenny, 18 (a black girl) who videoed the incident was arrested for "disturbing" and released on a $1000 bail.

Columbia Mayor Steven Benjamin said in a statement about Monday's incident, “We cannot and will not accept this kind of behavior from any law enforcement officer and I firmly believe we need an independent investigation to get to the bottom of this incident and see that justice is done.”

The victim is currently in a cast and has bruises on her head.
