26-year-old Colorado woman, Michelle Wilkins was 7 months pregnant when she responded to a Craigslist ad for baby clothes. She visited the advertiser, Dynel Lane, 35, at home where she ended up beaten, stabbed with her unborn baby cut from her womb.
Lane, a mother of two, also held a nurse's aide licence between 2012 and 2012. She allegedly stabbed Wilkins in the neck with a broken piece of glass, telling her, "If you love me, you would let me do it." She also attempted to smother her with a pillow and hit her over the head with a lava lamp in the basement, a police official testified.
After cutting the foetus from Wilkins' belly, Lane left Wilkins for dead, took the foetus upstairs, where her husband found her and the baby in the bathtub. He then rushed both Lane and the foetus to Longemont United hospital.
But Wilkins did not die as Lane thought instead she was able to call 911 and was rescued by officers.
When police tracked down Lane in the maternity ward of the hospital, she was still clutching the wrapped, dead baby, which she later admitted wasn't hers.
Wilkins underwent surgery and is currently in recovery.
Lane, who police have said likely suffers from mental illness, faces eight felony counts including attempted first-degree murder, assault and child abuse knowingly/recklessly resulting in death.
and is being held on $2 million bail.
She's either mentally ill or unbelievably cruel.
