World Earth Day 2015

April 22 marks 45th the World Earth Day; first celebrated in 1970. It is celebrated in over 192 countries worldwide with rallies, events and activities aimed at environmental protection.

An old anthem by Beethoven to honour the earth goes thus:

"Joyful joyful we adore our Earth in all its wonderment

Simple gifts of nature that all join into a paradise
Now we must resolve to protect her
Show her our love throughout all time
With our gentle hand and touch
We make our home a newborn world
Now we must resolve to protect her
Show her our love throughout all time
With our gentle hand and touch

We make our home a newborn world"

A simple way that everyone can celebrate Earth Day to make the world a better place is to turn off the lights in their own homes and in their offices ... not just sometimes, but all of the time," said Helene King, a member of the LifeBridge Health hospitals' Health Green Team in Baltimore. "It may sound simple, but how many times have you left the lights on when you could be saving energy?"

The Earth belongs to us all and we should do all we can everyday to protect it -reduce carbon emissions, stop idling engines needlessly, recycle, plant a tree.

You can make a difference!
