Kim Kardashian May Have Placenta Accreta

In a preview clip for an upcoming episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kim revealed she was told by her fertility doctor that the removal of her womb may be necessary after her next delivery.

In her conversation with Kanye on the phone, she explained what the doctor had said, "when you have your baby, this will be the last one, because the problem is your placenta grew on your uterus, so when you have another baby, your placenta will go right to that hole and then we'll have a team of doctors waiting right there, to remove your uterus and put you into emergency surgery right there because you can't bleed too much."

It appears the doctor is referring to Placenta accreta, a potentially life-threatening complication of pregnancy that occurs when blood vessels and other parts of the placenta grow too deeply into the uterine wall.

Typically, the placenta detaches from the uterine wall after childbirth. With placenta accreta, part or all of the placenta remains firmly attached. This can cause severe blood loss after delivery.

Placenta accreta is considered a high-risk pregnancy complication. If placenta accreta is suspected during pregnancy, you'll likely need an early C-section delivery followed by the surgical removal of your uterus (hysterectomy).
