16000 Transgender Activists In India Pledge To Donate Their Eyes

“Eyes do not discriminate, the perspective and perception of people do. We have decided to pledge our eyes as a thank you gesture to Justices AK Sikri and KS Radhakrishnan who had passed the landmark judgement,” transgender activist Laxmi Narayan Tripathi said, according to the Press Trust of India.

In a historic ruling last year, India’s Supreme Court declared “it is the right of every human being to choose their gender.”

Whole-eye transplants would be of enormous benefit for many of the 180 million blind or severely visually disabled people around the world, including nearly 3.5 million Americans, experts say.

However, till date, medical science has found no way to transplant whole eyes. When someone receives an "eye transplant," they are being given a donor cornea, the clear front part of the eye.
